Seasonal changes are
difficult; from the changing temperatures, time changes, and sickness flaring
up, transitioning from winter to spring can be tough on the body. The weather
constantly going from warm to cold causes sickness to strike since our bodies can
not regulate. As you move away from the winter colds and flus, you head toward
the spring allergy season. It is extremely important to take steps to stay
healthy during this time. Keep reading for tips on how to keep your body
healthy during the seasonal transition.
Exercise
Exercising 30 minutes a
day can boost your immune system to prevent you from getting sick. You could do
the typical walking and running, or you could try your hand at some winter
sports.
Dress Properly for the
Weather
In the cold, wear layers
to prevent frostbite and hypothermia. If your body temperature drops too much,
it can be dangerous. Putting on multiple layers will help trap body heat to
keep you warm.
Take warm showers
instead of hot showers to protect your blood vessels and have the necessary
moisture released to your skin. You will also want to use moisturizer
immediately after your shower to retain moisture in your skin. Just because it
is not summertime does not mean the sun cannot still harm your skin. You will
want to wear sunscreen on your face to protect it from the UVA rays.
Heat from artificial
heat sources can cause your skin to be dry and itchy, or even become damages.
Be sure to drink lots of water during the winter time. Proper hydration will
help combat skin problems.
Eat seasonal foods
Fight germs and
allergies
Know about Seasonal Affective
Disorder
While you may have heard
of seasonal depression, it is a real mental illness. Seasonal Affective
Disorder causes changes in mental well-being when the seasons change. Some of
the symptoms include low energy, social withdrawal, and overwhelming
sleepiness. Seek help if you are experiencing these symptoms.
Be highly aware of the
steps to take to keep yourself healthy, mentally and physically. Seasonal
transitions can be rough on the body but if you prioritize your health, you
will make it through just fine.
